Gabby Forman Remembered by Neighbors After Fatal Cohoes Shooting
Gabby Forman, a nurse at a hospital in Saratoga, is being remembered by neighbors and loved ones as a caring woman whose life was cut short in a tragic shooting in Cohoes.
Authorities say Gabby’s husband, Jadet Forman, shot his wife before turning the gun on himself. Both were found dead inside their apartment.
Police said the weapon used was an illegal “ghost gun,” a privately assembled firearm without a serial number. Investigators have not determined where Jadet obtained the weapon.
Cohoes Police Chief Todd Waldin said the firearm would be illegal for anyone to possess because it lacked a serial number and could have been assembled from parts ordered through the mail.
Police said Jadet had no known criminal history and that there was no recorded history of domestic violence or previous police calls involving the couple.
According to a family member, the couple had been married for about two years and was in the process of getting divorced. A cousin said Jadet had displayed aggressive behavior, including throwing objects and having a temper, but had never physically struck Gabby.
The circumstances leading up to the shooting remain under investigation.
Final Moments
Police said Gabby was on a FaceTime call with her mother, who was in Georgia, when contact was suddenly lost. Concerned, her mother contacted Gabby’s brother and asked him to check on her.
The brother went to the apartment and reportedly heard gunfire.
Cohoes Mayor Bill Keeler said both Gabby and Jadet were already dead before police received the initial emergency call.
However, family members later questioned why it took approximately five hours for officers to enter the apartment after responding to the scene.
Chief Waldin defended the officers’ actions, explaining that police initially could not determine what was happening inside the apartment and had to consider the possibility of a hostage situation.
He said officers must assess the circumstances and attempt to establish communication before entering a potentially dangerous location, emphasizing that rushing into an unknown situation could put residents, officers and others at risk.
Neighbors Remember Gabby
